Sri
Annapurneshwari Higher Secondary School Agalpady is one and only one
Higher Secondary School in Kumbdaje Village, Kasaragod Taluk, Kerala
State. The school situated at Jayanagara at present imparts education
to students learning from Standard V to Plus Two. Annapurneshwari
Aided lower primary school is in the North West portion of Sri
Durgaparameshwai Temple Agalpady, Ubrangala. In this school pupils
are taught from standard I to IV. The Annapurneshwari Educational
Institutions were founded in the year 1956, by a Sangha named
“Dakshina Kannada Jilla Karada Brahmana Vidyabhivardhaka Sangha (R)
No. 23, Registered at the Office of the District Registrar of
Dakshina Kannada Mangalore. This Sangha was the founder and it was
running the School.
In
the year 1956, our country Bharatha was divided into different states
on the basis of Languages spoken by its people. Prior to 1956,
Kasaragod Taluk was a part of old Madras Presidency, and as such the
area of Kasaragod Taluk up to Manjeshwara was included into Kerala
State. Then the Dakshina Kannada Karada Brahmana Vidyabhivardhaka
Sangha (R) Agalpady Ubrangala was renamed as Karada Brahmana
Vidyabhivardhaka Sangha (R) Agalpady Ubrangala. The registered
documents of our Sangha at Mangalore District Registrar’s Office
were transferred to the Office of the Registrar Thalassery, Kerala
and were subsequently transferred to the Office of the District
Registrar Kasaragod District with the Registered No. 75/1957. The
Executive Committee of this Sangha manages and runs the school.
A
few buildings collectively seen at Jayanagara in an area about 4
acres is now the developed Sri Annapurneshwari Higher Secondary
School, Agalpady. Few decades ago, Karada Brahmanas who were dwelling
in Agalpady, Ubrangala, Padre, Bayar, Nidpalli and Taire villages
gathered together to uplift the traditional Karada Brahmana culture,
and to develop the Karada Brahmana society as a whole founded a
Sangha named “Karada Brahmana Abhyudayodyami Sangha Agalpady”.
This Sangha with whole hearted cooperation of Karada Brahmanas
founded and run the Annapurneshwari Educational Institutions. The
well wishers also rendered their help to run the Institutions and to
construct the school buildings.
In
the year 1923, this Sangha started its first school. Since then the
Sangha neither had its own property nor a building to run the
classes. Formerly the Sangha started a Sanskrit Patashala in a small
building owned by the Sri Durgaparameshwari Matta by the side of the
Western Rajangana. Slowly the school so started became an Advanced
Sanskrit Patashala and students were prepared for the Sanskrit
Entrance Examination. The Sangha constructed a new school building
near by the Temple in the year 1947, and then the classes were
shifted to the new premises.
In
the later years as per the Madras Educational rules, our Advanced
Sanskrit School was
reinstituted as
Oriental High School, and later the school became an Aided General
High School.
The
Annapurneshwari Aided High School attracted more and more students,
and students around the area of 5 to 8 miles were admitted into
different classes. The Sangha owned about 4 acres of land at
Jayanagara. A new tiled building was constructed by the side of the
main road. Then the High School classes, that is, forms III, IV, V
and VI were transferred to this new building. A Boarding and lodging
house was built to the benefit of students coming from remote areas.
The originally built school building was a Pre-KER building. In the
year 1963 one more new building was constructed as per the K.E.R.
(Kerala Education Act and Rules) measurements. “Bharathi Kripa”,
a new 2 storied R.C.C. building was constructed to accommodate the
increasing number of students. The construction of the new building
began in 1994 and was completed in 2012 and was inaugurated by H.H
Sri Sri Keshavananda Bharathi Swamiji of Edneer Mut.
The
Institution was a High School until March 2010. The need of the
locality was a Plus Two Course. After SSLC, hundreds of pupils rushed
to the nearby towns namely Kasaragod, Puttur and Mangalore for their
higher studies. Some pupils discontinued their education since they
were in want of seats.
After
a long struggle, however, the Honorable Government of Kerala upgraded
our High School into Higher Secondary School. In Plus Two, Science
and Commerce batches were sanctioned with the student strength of 50
each. By March 2013 two batches have gone out with remarkable
results. Our school has a well equipped Library and Laboratory. As
per the Education Department order we have set up a well equipped
Computer laboratory for the use of students learning from standards V
to XII with the Internet facility. The Government of Kerala confirms
our Computer laboratory as the FIRST BEST COMPUTER LAB of Kasaragod
District.
The
Golden Jubilee celebration of our Institution was held on 16-04-2006,
and on this auspicious day H H Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha
Swamiji of Sringeri Mahasamsthanam visited our Institution and
blessed all.
Since
2010 the Plus Two classes are conducted in “Bharathi Kripa”. The
temporary laboratories are arranged for Science students in the High
School building which are in adequate. The Management Committee has
started construction work of a new “U” shaped building with 5
laboratories for Science students in the ground floor and an area of
16 class rooms in the 1st
floor and 2nd
floors. The construction work is in progress.
